I suspected I would like Gelupo cause I had tried their ice cream for dessert when we went to Bocca di Lupo (here’s my post on that one<\/a>). What I had at Bocca di Lupo was so yummy that I really wanted to try more flavours. So, on an appropriately rainy day (if we let a bit of rain stop us we’d never do anything in London) I went to Gelupo with a mate.<\/p>\n

It is a lovely space, it really has a sense of the Greek summer… come to think of it, it’s probably the Italian summer but hey ho.<\/p>\n

Unperturbed by the fact that my shoes were soaking wet (I got a high fever the next day, it’s a really instructive story) I ordered their big cup. This does not look sufficiently big – be warned – but it actually is, you will know when you eat the ice cream.<\/p>\n

We tried vanilla with saffron, bitter chocolate and pistachio. I can’t choose my favourite, even though I am a definite chocolate devotee. The pistachio<\/strong> left the taste of actual pistachios in the mouth. Not the chemical ice-creamy type of taste, but the actual taste of the nuts. Lovely. The vanilla with saffron<\/strong> was excellent too, even though it was more distinctive when the ice cream started melting – maybe something to do with the temperature. Personally I could not get enough of the bitter chocolate<\/strong> which is really really rich. Not as smooth as the other flavours but still amazing.<\/p>\n

At the back of the shop you will find their little deli selection which is quite impressive. I’m glad I’ve had so much to eat that day – but even so I was sorely tempted to buy at least ten things.<\/p>\n

Overall this is one of the best ice-creams<\/strong> I’ve tasted in London. Creamy, smooth, with clean and intense flavours. a lovely space too – even though do try to avoid it if you’re going to sit there in your wet shoes and coat like some people I know.<\/p>\n
