Both have given me some quite memorable evenings in the Royal Festival Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I get it, orchestral music may sound a tad boring but don&#8217;t knock it until you have actually gone to a concert. No, it&#8217;s not the same if you listen to it at home. Seeing the orchestra working together is half the fun.<\/p>\n<p>Another point. Performances are dirt cheap. I mean come ON! When was the last time you could\u00a0spend \u00a312 for a concert? Don&#8217;t be scared of the cheap seats at the back, acoustics in the Royal Festival Hall are to die for.<\/p>\n<p>Already booked a good number of tickets so I thought I could note some interesting things I saw in their programme. I should say here that even though I enjoy classical music <strong>I am NOT qualified to judge adequately so I might be missing some GREAT ones<\/strong>. Please leave me a comment to suggest more \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lpo.org.uk\/whats-on-and-tickets\/search-events\/233-shostakovichs-vision-of-war.html?view_more_events=1\" target=\"_blank\">Shostakovich\u2019s vision of war<\/a><br \/>\nJurowski conducts Shostakovich, Prokofiev and Lindberg. There, that says it all. Be prepared to possibly shed a tear with the Shostakovich piece.<br \/>\n<em>Royal Festival Hall &#8211; 24 September 2014<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lpo.org.uk\/whats-on-and-tickets\/search-events\/234-rachmaninoff-inside-out.html\" target=\"_blank\">Rachmaninov Inside Out Series (London Philharmonic)\u00a0<\/a><br \/>\nRussian genius. I mean, what is not to like? Try and book for one where\u00a0Vladimir Jurowski is conducting, he is a pleasure to watch (and listen). I am gutted that I can&#8217;t go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lpo.org.uk\/whats-on-and-tickets\/search-events\/234-rachmaninoff-inside-out.html\" target=\"_blank\">3rd of October one<\/a>,\u00a0when Jurowski conducts and Alexande Ghindin rocks the piano.<br \/>\n<em>Royal Festival Hall &#8211; various dates<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.philharmonia.co.uk\/concerts\/692\/london\/royal_festival_hall\/15_october_2014\/philharmonia_at_the_movies__sci-fi\" target=\"_blank\">Sci-Fi movies (Philharmonia)\u00a0<\/a><br \/>\nIf you don&#8217;t know if you like orchestral music this is the one you should go to. Just see what a proper orchestra does with recognisable tunes and you&#8217;ll probably be booking Berlioz after.<br \/>\n<em>Royal Festival Hall &#8211; 15 October 2014<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lpo.org.uk\/whats-on-and-tickets\/search-events\/238-resurrection.html\" target=\"_blank\">Van Zweden conducts Mahler\u2019s Symphony No. 2 (Resurrection)<\/a><br \/>\nThis will probably be one of those concerts where you will not be able to get up and leave after it ends. Mahler certainly does that to me.<br \/>\nRoyal Festival Hall &#8211; 01 November 2014<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.philharmonia.co.uk\/concerts\/598\/london\/royal_festival_hall\/27_november_2014\/city_of_light_pelleas_et_melisande\" target=\"_blank\">Pell\u00e9as Et M\u00e9lisande (Philharmonia)<\/a><br \/>\nWhat is not to like? Debussy as a one hit opera wonder? Check. Paris? Check. Love triangle? Check.
